From: Phyllis Wheeler, the Computer Lady from
Motherboard Books
Dear friends,
Let me tell you about this 37-page E-Book intended for kids age 7-9. It's a simple fun exercise in making a Web page, using a free trial download of drag-and-drop software Web Studio.

Your kid will write up an interview, paste it into the Web page, and add a background and photo.
Then He will go out on the Internet (with your assistance) to gather animations, more backgrounds, and sounds. He will add links. Finally, he will put the finished work on your home computer as the “home page†when the browser opens up.Â
Throughout, the tone is lighthearted and occasionally silly. The goal of the book is to get your child to enjoy bossing computers around, which may bear fruit later in life.
The heftier version of this book, Let’s Make a Web Page, is 60 pages long and uses different software. It contains a lot more instruction, and is aimed at somewhat older children. It also uses a different free trial download software called CoffeeCup HTML Editor. The tone is more matter-of-fact.
If you want just a fun exercise for your child in experimenting with drag-and-drop, the Junior version will do just fine!
Both come from me, Computer Lady Phyllis Wheeler. I delight to take your child by the hand and show him how.

Stephanie Buckwalter of Bristow, Virginia, a mom and co-op computer teacher, reviewing Let's Make a Web Page Junior:
Â
This book provides a gentle, clear introduction to building a website. The step-by-step instructions are illustrated with screen pictures throughout, making it easy for readers to understand new concepts quickly. Â
Phyllis Wheeler talks about how to use the safe eyes settings and how to recognize (and avoid clicking on) ads. The book is filled with tips on what makes a good web page and pitfalls to avoid. Another great feature is the information she gives on finding backgrounds, animations and more for free on the Internet. Â
I recommend this book for those kids who just can’t wait to have their own web page. (Mrs. Wheeler tells you how to publish the page on your computer without having to put it out on the Internet.) You can’t go wrong with The Computer Lady.

Nora Huggins of Indialantic, Florida:
My son has so enjoyed Logo Adventures. I cannot get him to stop on most days.
He is eating it up with much success. I love the fact that he can do this on his own since he is 11 years old.
Thanks again for making learning fun! |
